About: Museums and tourism in northern Norway
Helgeland Museum in collaboration with TreFokus and NAL/Ecobox invites to 3 open competitions where museums are to be developed on the island of Vega, in the city of Mosjøen and in Grane bygdetun. The background for the competition is a wish to put more focus on the Norwegian culture and tourism and the industry connected to the forest and wood. The development of these museums should make the interest for the local traditions bigger. There is a wish for an architecture that combines old traditions with new knowledge about wood – so that the visitors will learn about the past, the present and the future.

Mosjøen: Transformation of city center
Award: 2nd prize and 150.000 NOK
The purpose with the competition is to find a new and interesting solution to the existing Domus-building in Mosjøen center and to upgrade Mosjøen city, both in function and aesthetics, with emphasize on the square and the streets surrounding the building.
A visitors center for Helgeland Museum is to be implemented inside or as an addition to the existing Domus-building.
The total area for the programed functions is aprox. 500 m2
The assignment is to develop a proposal to how the Domus-building can be transformed and organized with a new visitors center that boosts it’s image clearly to the surroundings.
