One-family housing
Type: School Assignment
When: 4th semester, spring 2007
About: One-family housing
This assignment consists of making a proposal for a one-family house on a fictive site, surrounded by a forest of pine trees.
The house was not to be designed for a specific person, family or function. The emphasize was to be put on flexibility and general use.
The house was to change in the duration of time and adapt to different needs. Without loosing the architectural concept, the house had to be able to expand from the original size of 90 m2 to the size of 150 m2.
The background for this assignment was investigations about the way the traditional family is changing, where there is a constant shift in relations – children and grown ups, privacy and social life, home and workspace etc.
Is it possible to design a place for living that can adapt to all of these needs, and what is the frame for “the good life”?
